Over half of the US spending is entitlements, and a lot of the rest is still social programs.

It is true that the military spending is high by international comparisons, and seems higher still because the US budget is so large. It is false to say that's "the bulk of spending". And further, a big reason why the military budget is large is exactly what Trump has been saying: because the US is subsidizing the defense of rich allies rather than Japan, South Korea and the Europeans paying for their own defense through their own taxes and expenditures. Unlike other expenses, including entitlements, a lot of the defense budget is de facto foreign aid, to be spent in foreign countries and for foreign citizens. (And yes, this is probably the issue where Trump is most right of all.)
