I didn't think I was autistic for the last half of my life. However, after a few comments from friends, and a few experiences on vacation with friends I started to think they might actually be onto something. – After all, my pediatrician did think so, from many years back.
I figured no point in guessing, I wanted to know for sure. I sought out the opinion of a specialist that I respected, who is autistic himself. He performed a formal assessment, which included a wide range of tests across different domains, as well as interview questions and analysis of my communication, tone of voice, way I hold myself, internet, and so on. In the process of learning more about autism, I have also, in a quite roundabout fashion, learned more about myself. One very interesting take-away I found... In the autistic community, the prevalence of non-heterosexuals MUCH higher. More than one study suggests this. Since I’m a LGL, I figured it might explain it. Over 300 different genes can cause autism, and account for about 65% of the cause. Rainbowloom mentioned he was autistic too, but I didn’t know if he was kidding.
