My end goal is to contribute research that helps us better understand MAPs. One area that I am particularly interested in is the level of exclusivity in sexual interest and overlap among different sexual interests. For example, I am quite interested in examining how the degree of exclusivity in sexual interest more broadly correlates with sex drive. I have started to conduct this type of research with MAPs and other groups as well (e.g., I just completed a survey on autoerotic asphyxiation where I will look at some of these issues).

As a psychologist I also want to ensure that MAPs who are interested in seeking treatment services are able to do so. Right now this is not the case and there are lots of barriers. I absolutely recognize that many MAPs are doing very well and do not need any sort of support. There are others who may be interested in seeking services for issues that are related to being a MAP (e.g., stigma related stressors) or completely unrelated. My goal is to be able to learn more about the needs of MAPs so we can start to develop such services.

Thanks for the suggestions re: research questions. I can appreciate the frustration with researchers if you feel they are missing the mark in the type of questions they ask. We hope to include MAPs in the research process (from research question development to sharing the results) in the future in order to address this.
