Pedophiles are...

... adults sexually attracted to prepubescent children. Pedophilia is the adult sexual attraction to prepubescent children. As such it is not against the law to be a pedophile i.e. to have that sexual attraction. It really is as simple as that. Attaching levels to 'pedophilia' seems to me a bit overreaching. A sexual attraction is not 'hardcore' or 'soft core'. It just is.

Once a pedophile actively engages in sexual acts with prepubescent children he would still be a pedophile but also a pedosexual: someone who 'has sex with children'. (I'm not going to include hebephilia or such in this, it's complicated enough) Is a pedosexual automatically a pedophile? Hardly I would think. Are some Catholic priests pedosexuals? Yes. Are they also pedophiles? I doubt it very much (other than that they and thus God love everybody). Are child molesters pedosexuals? I would think so. Are the pedophiles? Hardly as a rule but some definitely are.
