And whose fault is that?

Gee, this is the first good discussion I've had at GC for a while!

When my father's parents came here; they learned English; they did not expect the culture at large to learn Scots Gaelic and German, simply to accommodate them. When my mother's parents came here, they learned English; they did not expect the culture at large to learn French and Spanish. When the Italian immigrants came here, they learned English. When Japanese move here, they learn English (ever been to Hawaii, where white Anglos are a minority?) When the Kingdom of Hawaii was added to the United States, the people who did not already know English, the lingua franca of the islands, learned it. When the Chinese immigrants came here, they learned English. When the Africans came here, they learned English. When the Poles came here, they learned English. When the Scandinavians came here, they learned English. When the Irish-Gaelic speakers came here, they learned English. When the Cubans came here, they learned English (or the ones who wanted to go beyond the confines of Little Havana did). Every immigrant group who came here learned English. Even the NATIVE AMERICANS WHOSE LAND THIS REALLY IS learned English, for God's sake!
Now some Mexicans are too good to learn English? More like ethno-centric.
Screw 'em, I say.

It is not racism that's holding them back, but justified resentment at their refusal to learn the common language.

If the Mexican culture is so shitty before they come that they have to leave their country and sneak into the United States to feed their families, then why is the Mexican culture suddenly so great after they arrive that they will not assimilate in our culture?

Historically, emigration takes the best and the brightest from a country; Americans claim that this land was built by the strong and the brave:
the strong, because the weaklings died on the way here, and the brave, because the cowards never left home.
I applaud those who want to join us, just as I condemn the cherry-pickers who would come here and enjoy the fruits of our economy while disdaining the very culture that supports them.

If they don't want to learn English? I say again: screw 'em.
