I have looked at most of the memories I have detailed in a short autobiography and it seems that most are related to either emotional or arousal issue at the time or to traumatic experiences either involving physical danger or actual injury or near-death experiences. Presumably most of these memories come under the 'implicit' category which is why they are retained intact for so long. I'll admit to not having much knowledge regarding memory formation or theory.
