The industrial revolution, the destruction of the Spanish Armada, an empire that held 1/3 of the world's territory after half that empire separated from the homeland and developed separately, an island whose language became the dominant language on three continents and the second language for most of the world, an island that utterly dominated the oceans for over a century, a major contributor in the development of computers and jet engines, and extremely important in the development of free market capitalism, wealth creation, rule of law, and religious freedom - and you are impressed with hosting the Olympics?

It's kind of anticlimactic, don't you think?
