As someone who you will only ever see with a flag when it is draped around their body during a sea burial I think I am entitled to a little euphoria when it unites the nation in such an emotional manner. I don't see the athletes as the pinnacle of their abilities but rather as the unifying aspect that can cause such a bringing together of diverse peoples - surely that can't be bad. I am particularly non competitive, although I have been active, but for a country such as the UK to actually host and be successful at a worldwide event such as the Olympics is an historical occasion so Well done our lads and lasses.
