And yet many societies where infants are routinely masturbated by caregivers are more peaceful, and have better adjusted adults, than our society.

How would we actually 'measure' the differences between the two societies and the contributions that each difference makes to each society? Better adjusted in what way? To fit their society? Things like pacifying by masturbation like many other things - e.g. potty training to music - might have an equal affect that was not positive. I still think many of these differences are not transferable between different societies too.
