I do not think there is any morally relevant reason why I am attracted to young girls. It just is.
In general, in life, most people would view me as a pessimist. I consider myself a realist (of course?). Let me give some examples from outside the realm of pedophilia. I am actually less interested in correcting the injustices of society today than I am in preventing them from getting much worse. I think the chances of a meaningful overall international effort to hold back climate change are very very small. I would love to get rid of the glass ceiling for women in the workplace, but I'm actually more concerned about a possible backlash that would get rid of the significant gains they have achieved. I think liberal capitalism is about the best form of economic and political organization we can achieve in the foreseeable future. I would like to see it get more liberal -- my main complaint with Obama is that he was too much of a wimp in standing up to Republicans. The secret NSA programs trouble me deeply, but I don't think Republicans would be any better on that issue. One recent notable effort to make the world better was Soviet-style communism, and it made things much worse, so I am very wary of revolutionary change.
Some accuse me of a mindless defense of the status quo. I definitely look at the big picture, but I see more opportunities for disaster than improvement. Looking at history, civilizations rise and fall; things go up and down. We've been a pretty big "up" for quite a while now. I sure hope it continues as long as possible... I think people should spend more effort keeping things from getting worse than making them better, though it's usually not clear how to do that in practice.
From my usual perspective, the Virtuous Pedophiles goal of having celibate pedophiles accepted more in society seems quixotic and nearly hopeless, but it is an issue that I personally have passion for, so I go for it.
If I had to wager, I'd say that the chances in 30 years of adult-child sex being accepted are much less than the chances that some authoritarian government will have taken over, tracked all internet pedophiles down from NSA databases and executed us.
So, if the question you come in to GirlChat with is, "How can we make a world where sexual activity with kids is OK?" I can see you will have to be an optimist, and perhaps the degree of optimism gets pumped up to match the seeming difficulty of the transformation. (My opposition to that particular change in the future is based on my best judgment of human nature, not its attainability.) Is profound optimism a requirement for being accepted on GirlChat? I tend to think it's useful to hear a different perspective.
In today's world, of course, detecting a hint of sexual attraction will make parents go crazy.
Yeah, I think that's right. People keep asking you to stop reinforcing the status quo and you keep saying you are not. But . . . isn't' this statement doing just that?
The statement sets the context for what I say next, which contrasts with it. It's one statement in a fairly long post, and you agree it's true. I'm not saying I like it. I don't get your concern at all in this particular case.
