Comparatively moderate vs. actually moderate

I'm with Bill on this one.

How did you even find that quote from Bill Maher? I watch his show and read his books continuously, yet I never heard that particular one before.

Romney isn't crazy enough to be more than "moderate." You assigning that label to him shows an underestimation of the craziness from the Right that I would not have expected of you, Dissy :)

I didn't say he wasn't moderate in comparison to the rest of his lot. In fact, I said he was the least nuts of all the Republicans vying for the primary spot at the time, which is why he was pushed through. But to say he is a moderate in general, no freaking way. He may not have been as crazy as the typical Republican these days, but he was a card-carrying hater of the poor and supporter of everything the typical conservative of today is for. He wouldn't have swung left on any social issue regardless of the fact that he wasn't a flat-earther or a fundie Christian.

You will notice, btw, that Bill Maher, in that quote you provided, noted how the liberals swung to the Right at about the same time (30 odd years) which I've been pointing out to Ethan and Markie over and over again in this thread, as well as around here previously. That is roughly around the same time Reagan and Thatcher was elected into office, and the pedo hysteria and everything which flowed out of it started. It's refreshing to see an avowed liberal like Maher taking his own political camp to task rather than making excuses for what they did post-1970s like Ethan did in this very thread. He doesn't like what his fellow liberals have become with good reason. If many more liberals stuck to their principles when the going got tough, a lot of this bad shit would have been avoided.
