Today is the day we celebrate the anniversary of Charles Dodgson first meeting Alice Liddell, who later inspired Dodgson to write "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" under his pen name, Lewis Carroll.

Charles Dodgson had a special place in his heart for Alice and for little girls generally, so much so that it appears plain to most of us girl lovers that Dodgson was one of us. It appears that the feeling was mutual. Despite what some of our enemies have claimed, I don't know of anyone who has claimed that their relationship was sexual. A loving relationship can be sexual, but it doesn't have to be because love and sex are different things - a reality which those people seem unable to fathom.

On this special day I hope you will all be able to reflect on the joy that little girls bring to the world, and the joy that girl lovers can bring to little girls.
