CLover band - setlist proposal

it occurs to me that a band called CLover, playing nothing but cover tunes, wouldn't really be any different, meaningswise, from a sears catalog. there are so many songs out there already that are probably perfectly innocent in reality, but which take on new and often very beautiful meanings in the context of child love.

i would like to suggest - for all i'm assuming this idea will sink like most others - that those of us with musical ambitions consider working together to establish a set-list of songs that we could all learn, just in case we should happen to meet up on a stage out there somewhere.

these are a few of my proposals:

the house of the rising sun - traditional
we gotta get outta this place - the animals
behind blue eyes - pete townshend
my little runaway - ?
bumblebee - leo kottke
anyone's daughter - deep purple
in the summertime - gershwin
it don't mean a thing (if it aint got that swing) - ?
nice work if you can get it - billie holliday
bewitched bothered and bewildered - ella fitzgerald
paper moon - ?
little red riding hood - sam the sham
love over gold - dire straits
my ding a ling - chuck berry

and here's one i hadn't noticed before:

the grand illusion - janis ian

the gulls are crying
missy can you hear them call?
it was so easy then
when all our friends were small

how we used to like the old time movies
the silent picture show
where you make up your life
at the end of the night
as your reel-to-reels unfold

now i've come here to score some satisfaction
maybe some more of that old reaction
i'm a junkie for that grand illusion
who's losing
and who's just using?

i lost my virtue
leading some double life for fear
it was so easy then
when all our friends lived near

now i'm left without an advertisement
to separate the marks from the shills
from those good time blues
and two toned shoes
that used to give me chills

i've come to score

janis ian is very interesting, in my opinion, particularly if you know her history - i'm pretty sure i read that she started rather early...
