LOD himself made clear later in the thread that his co-worker wasn't Hispanic. And I don't have to assume any particular ethnic origin or skin colour to make the post I made. However, Spanish in the USA is associated with the Latino communities, even though, obviously, not all Latinos speak it and many non-Latinos (Dubya comes to mind) do - that is why I think it's not too far a cry to believe it had racial overtones. That is again why I tried once and again to decenter it from Spanish - could've been Chinese, Hebrew or sign language, and even if the co-worker wasn't Chinese, Jew or deaf, my assessment wouldn't have changed much...
You are also ageist, to assume that a child can only speak one language.
We only assumed the girl didn't speak Spanish. That is, again, what LOD's post sounded like. She might indeed speak Spanish. And she might also not speak Spanish but in exchange speak a number of other languages. Nobody, however, actually claimed she was monolingual - least of all that she was monolingual because of her age.
And at that, most of the world's population IS monolingual, and so is most of the USA population; therefore, had it been claimed, it is a good assumption from bare unfiltered statistics.
It is this ageism which deludes you into thinking that her reply was predicated upon the remark being in Spanish, without giving her enough credit to reply to what was said instead of the language used to say it.
This is where you got me. There is an unjustifiable assumption there - and I recognise it.

This is why I assumed the girl did not speak Spanish. There is no reason to mention it unless there had been a language barrier involved.
It's possible that LOD mentioned it just because he didn't understand what was said, rather than to remark it was in Spanish - but why not writing "said something to her which I didn't get"??? The reason he didn't understand is pretty much irrelevant - co-worker might have been relatively far, or spoke too quickly, or LOD wasn't paying attention because the girl was too cute...

And this is the other part which leads to assumptions.
First - at the time I write this, LOD hasn't posted what the co-worker said in Spanish, so most of us admittedly took the easy way of not considering it was the content which caused her reaction. Unless and until we know what he said, this question will remain unsolved.
Second - she replied in English. If it was the content which bothered her, rather than the language, the most likely reaction would've been the same reply in Spanish. Multilingual people usually reply in the language they're spoken in, rather than in the majority language of where they are - for expressing discomfort as well as for expressing agreement or joy.
That's where all the unsupported assumptions come from.
And now, for stealing from GR:

Even if no racism or language barrier can be legitimately assumed, I still contend to you that she acted like a bitch. For a place where not too long ago someone was saying that they don't like women because of a Bitch Factor, GR is right in pointing out that the attitude taken is that "because a lg did it, it's hysterical". It's not. She acted like a bitch and it shouldn't be praised just because she was young, or just because she was hawt.
