I have educated myself on the topic..
Socialism: Government control of privately owned business.
That is EXACTLY what the "Progressives" are, Socialist, especially in regards to healthcare. The Progressive movement has been around for a long, long time. They do not use the term Socialist because it is too laden with meaning (and truth). NOT ALL democrats are Progressives, but many are.

As far as Obama and socialism are concerned, it is VERY easy to research his father's leanings toward and support of Marxism. And yes, Socialism and Marxism are technically different things, one being economic and one being social, but they go hand in hand. Obama's writings from college are hidden and covered up, but it is strongly suspected they show strong Socialist leanings. Check this link... http://obamaism.blogspot.com/ (hope that is approved? That was just the first link among many if you google Obama Socialism Marxism. And don't bother with the pathetic argument, "you can find anything on Google." While its a valid statement that there is untruth on the internet, that does not mean there is not also truth.

Secondly, I live in an area that is primarily black. I heard no shortage of black folks (many of whom I like), say things that strongly indicated they were voting for him because he was black. A very good friend of mine (who is black) told me he and his wife were fighting in 2008 about politics. He is conservative. She actually AGREED with his arguments about the stances that both parties take, but outright said to him, "I can't believe you are not supporting our people." Many of these folks, frankly, don't know the difference in a Republican, a Democrat, or any other party. I had white acquaintances who said they were proud to be voting in our first black president.

You are correct though, that many Democrats voted for him just because he is a Democrat, just as many Republican vote for their guy because he's Republican. That kind of makes sense, doesn't it?

Finally, if you can't win an argument with a conservative, just through out the "right wing talking points" talking point. That'll shoe 'em.
