Hi Ian,
Thank you for your effort to better understand MAPs. It looks like you've worked really hard to make people taking the survey feel safe, respected and understood. Very few people are willing to take the time to listen and understand so this is greatly appreciated. For this reason I attempted to take your survey but part way through I started to find the questions problematic. For example: "Even though my sexual behavior is irresponsible or reckless, I find it difficult to stop." The question seems to imply that my sexual behavior is irresponsible and whether I choose "Never" or "Very Often" speaks only to whether or not I am able to stop my allegedly irresponsible sexual behavior. But what if I don't have any irresponsible sexual behaviors that need stopping? The question reminds me of the one my elementary schoolmates used to ask, "Does your dad know you're gay?" The question itself makes an assumption that neither a yes or no answer can refute. I realize it would be methodologically difficult to change the survey questions half way through but until this is changed I can't finish the survey. |
