Well done. Of course you did exactly the right thing and I am sure most of us would appreciate how you felt but holding a pretty young girl's hand would have afforded enough pleasure as to make me forget the situation I think.

This does illustrate how children of this age are so trusting of adults (holding hand for security and feelings of safety) - even when it is a complete stranger. An adult gave her hope of finding her parents and a feeling of security. This emphasises the point that children up to this age and a little beyond are so vulnerable. The power differential is inherent in the nature of adults and children, and how children generally view adults.

Remote as it might be, you also saved her from perhaps a more distressing situation.

Gee, you didn't get her name or phone number though. ;-)
