OT: 43 years ago Americans stained the Moon

I read that Neil Armstrong is dead (a good riddance) and it made me remember one evening, or was it a night, 43 years ago. Do you know what I remember best? That stupid, premeditated, artificial, pretended, precious (pick up the correct word) "aphorism" that he said when he set his foot on the surface of the Moon: "A small step for me, but a giant leap for mankind".

How many weeks and months he had spent trying to think of that sentence? "Hey, I am a great American boy, I'm one of 'our great American boys', and now I am going to say something really memorable and profound so that they will remember me forever."

It was so fucking transparent: he had been thinking of it beforehand so that his head was bulging, he kept it secret from everyone, and then disclosed this immortal wisdom** only when he stepped on the Moon.

** 3. Archaic: a wise saying or wise sayings or teachings

I would have been so much happier if the Soviet Union had gone there first.
