You make pronouncements that have no basis in fact and declare them truth? Hah!

What pronouncements specifically are you talking about?

A girl who expected to be supported was almost forced to marry an older, established man, since the young ones were not in a solid financial position to support a family.

I'm not following. It seems to me you just took three random points and are now expecting me to add them up and produce some kind of synthesis. What is your point?

Age was the primary determinant, all other factors being equal. A young woman had a better chance to survive than an old one.

Can you prove that? I stated my position was my hunch; you stated it as a fact: it was this way. Therein lies the difference.

You didn't have to. It is implied in the very concept of a 12- or 13-yr-old, which was what this was initially about, remember? The supposed age of Mary when she gave birth to Jesus? You suggested it was common for girls this age to marry.

Yes, you keep saying that, but I just don't see any overwhelming evidence for it. As for teens being mature enough to bear children, I could consult a doctor, but since I already made the point that we are talking about a time period prior to modern medicine, his authority on the matter would not apply here.

Rather than deal with your entire post I chose the most blatant example of self-justification.

I ask for evidence for your position and you call it self-justification? Yeah, try that with all those people who would be far less sympathetic to your overall position than am. This isn't rocket science. If you expect society to take you seriously as a GL activist then you'd better learn how to produce evidence for your position or else they'll rip you apart. Being a smartass doesn't count as being learned. ;-)
