If I used your standard of (1) about gay and trans issues, banning gays and trans from arguing for their pro positions, then I'd be immediately considered (rightly so) a homophobe, even by people who are lukewarm or moderately against the pro sides on gay and trans issues. (2) is a complete lie, and that's exactly why most of us consider you dishonest. The consequences of prohibition are never just that someone didn't do X (if laws even stopped X, which time after time and example after example have proven false, btw) -- they include police abuse, judicial abuse, deviation of valuable societal resources into prohibition, corruption, and extortion (also from civilians and lawyers, not just police). Misreading is neither inherent nor exclusive to pedophiles or even to sex: it happens to all sorts of people of all ages and orientations, in all sorts of different interactions. Same goes for regrets: I regret many things in my own life myself, where sex (or lgs) have nothing to do with it. And in the particular case of sex, where physical evidence is inherently hidden and is inevitably destroyed in days after the act, false accusations are a much, much bigger problem than defenses based on alleging consent. Indeed the bar for rape is low, at least in the Anglosphere. |
