"Remember - it's not about knoweldge and experience, it's about the brain reaching a certain stage of development. "

Actually, no.

We never see the brain maturity argument used in isolation from the "experience" argument.

This is probably because the brain isn't a tabula rasa. At no point is it magically ready to make choices after having been deprived of the opportunity. Antis note, properly, that those with more practice generally make better choices. But then they go on to deny the opportunities in certain areas due to an arbitrary age which they don't deny elsewhere.

So I must ask. Do we really think that our system of consent for playground games is horribly broken and immoral? Do we think that allowing them to try tetherball is wrong before an age we must agree upon as a society? Do we think the kid who tried hopscotch and hated it has been harmed? Do we think that those who convinced her to try it out wronged her?

Allowing kids who can articulate consent to practice consent if the only system that works. And when you look at the few areas they are forbidden to practice consent, you see the poorest choices. In areas where youngsters drink, teens don't alcohol-poison themselves routinely. And the areas which promote "abstinence-only" have the highest birth-rates and STD rates. We could lower all this down to the risk-level of tetherball if we allowed kids to ease themselves in to learning to make the wise choices they make in most every other area of life.

BTW an AOC test is pretty much Dissident's point of view.
