GM at a restaurant, another odd toddler encounter

I was concerned that I would see more inexplicable actions on the part of a toddler, and unfortunately I wasn't proven wrong. I didn't think the 12 year old was very cute, but she was really cool and she had a very nice body. Of course, I had to avoid talking to her as much as possible because I didn't want her parents to know or suspect that I was a hebephile, and I have not yet come out to this new friend of mine (that will be the subject of another, unrelated post in the future).
As for the 3 year old, she was feeling ill so I felt bad for her. Her mother held her for much of the time. She had a unique hair color and an adorable face. After a while, though, she got off of her mom's lap and started wandering around the restaurant. Suddenly, she immediately headed for the bathroom area. It was NOT because she had to use the bathroom. She stayed by the bathroom door out of our view for a long time, so her sister went to go and see what she was doing. Then they were both gone for a while. Their mother finally got up to go and see what was going on, and she came back and told me that the 3 year old had spent all of that time opening and closing the bathroom door non-stop. She was doing this for well over 15 minutes, and I fail to see the point or purpose of such actions. Once again, toddler logic eludes my understanding. Her sister was kind enough to wait there for her little sister as Terra endlessly opened and closed the bathroom door, the little girl being amused by this repetitive action for who knows what reason. She never even ate anything in the restaurant! (It was an all you can eat buffet.)
Later, Terra came back to where we were sitting and my friend smiled and said "hi" to her. Terra simply shook her head in response. Yes, I was surprised by this reaction too...why would someone, even a toddler, shake their head as if to say "no" in response to someone saying "hi" to them? Once again, this was beyond my understanding.
I have had other people, including many on this board (such as Neutrino) tell me that it's a rewarding experience to be around a toddler. But I just don't understand their behavior or why they do the things that they do. Maybe I am destined to be puzzled by toddler behavior forever. If I wasn't, then maybe I would be able to see what was rewarding about being around a kid like Terra who runs amuck in the middle of a restaurant and opens and closes the bathroom door almost endlessly. I felt sorry for her sister, a cool AG who was stuck watching this repetitive action for over 15 minutes.
This post was not intended to disparage anyone who loves toddlers. It was simply intended to share my latest encounter with a toddler girl and their accompanying inexplicable behavior. If anyone here has an explanation for such behavior, and are able to help me better understand the toddler psyche, it would be greatly appreciated.
