Researching the mind of a pedophile

Let’s talk about pedophilia. In talking about pedophilia, and believe it or not, in helping pedophiles, we help children. For once, the cliché line “think about the children” is actually never more appropriate than in this discussion.

Helping how? You have to define it because maybe I don't want your "help." Also, I can think of other scenerios where "think about the children" would be more appropriate. Sex is not the worst thing in the world that could happen to a child, I can think of worse things like the four horseman of the apocalypse. But I guess according to most "child protectionist" it's better that a child starve or die (which happens all the time in poor countries) than to be touched sexually. But shouldn't we think about those children more? Unless you're not too concerned since it generally doesn't happen to white children?

On a recent episode of the noted podcast This American Life, “Tarring and Feathering,” they dealt with public shaming. They presented two run-of-the-mill stories, albeit still interesting, but the third one focused on Adam (not his real name).

Adam is a pedophile. He’s also only 19-years-old. When he was 14, he self-diagnosed himself as a pedophile because he became aware of his attraction to children, mostly between the ages of eight and 11. To satisfy his attraction, he watched child porn.

Was Adam ever convicted for this? Child porn is illegal and could be investigated by police if he did not already serve a conviction for it.

No group in society is more ostracized, and often for good reason, than pedophiles. So admitting that he’s a pedophile that watches child porn to his family or a friend or even a psychiatrist was not something he wanted to do.

Again, let’s be clear here: He never acted upon his fantasies. Being a pedophile does not actually mean acting upon your fantasies – it’s having the attraction to begin with. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders from the American Psychiatric Association, pedophilia falls under a paraphilic disorder.

For good reason? What is that? You can't just say for good reason and that not say what those reasons are. It shows that you're not really thinking about what you are saying, you're just saying it.

Again, let's be clear here: watching child porn is considered by law a crime and is regarded the same as acting out. According to the vodoo theory everytime you look at a picture of a child being sexually abused, the child suffers that abuse all over again. Shouldn't we argue against these stupid laws or would that make us "bad" pedophiles?

I love it to how people use the DSM as a bible for understanding pedophilia despite the fact that this was the same book that once characterized runaway slaves as having a disorder and gay people as having a disorder. Shouldn't you use a book with a little more credibility?

Yes, there are some pedophiles that seek the dismantling of age-of-consent laws and that society accept their attractions. But most are like Adam and they want to control their desires.

Yeah, so? What's so bad about that? Homosexuals fought to change the laws too. Was that wrong?

Secondly, how do you know that most are like Adam? Where did you get that from? I have to doubt that you're sincere about understanding pedophiles when you make stuff up about pedophiles without evidence. At least you didn't say that all pedophiles are evil sadist who want to torture children, but it's still a bullshit claim to say that most are like Adam. Until you have actually studied and interviewed more pedophiles and have good data to back up what you say, you can't make these type of claims.

The Crimes Against Children Research Center found that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys are a victim of child sexual abuse. Keep in mind, as with any sexual assault crime, underreporting is rampant.

Bullshit statistics and you can't claim that underreporting is rampant if it's never reported? how would you know it even occured? This claim about underreporting drives me so mad because it is such obvious bullshit that requires psychic abilities in order to know. Can you tell me how many ghost sightings are underreported too?

Think I should give him points for at least trying?
