Naughty but Nice

You'll not see me describing most of my GMs since I think they should be private. However ....

Walking past a garden some time ago I saw a young girl aged about nine or ten trampolining and doing some nice forward and backward flips. She was mostly hidden by the garden wall but I could see her as she rose and fell and she was quite pretty and dressed in a leotard. As I passed she looked at me and I said, "Nice", being entirely honest but I'm not sure she got all the meaning since it didn't just refer to her trampolining. She gave me a half-smile so perhaps she did. It is convenient to be economical with words but not the truth and I think I managed both on that occasion.

This second one has me a little puzzled. I was walking towards a local park, as I often do on the way to the shops, and as I entered the park a girl of about thirteen who was talking to two boys about her age began to wave frantically at me smiling all the while. She was quite pretty but I didn't know her so was hardly expecting a conversation and when I drew level I smiled at her, said hello and continued walking. She didn't say anything so what was I to assume? After several yards I heard her call out "Excuse me!" I turned around, looked at her but since she didn't say anything again I carried on walking and later heard a "FU!" There were a number of older women playing bowls nearby and since I have *cough* "offences" I was not about to be seen talking to kids I didn't know. Normally if kids approach me I do listen and help if I think it appropriate. Seeing a young child falling from her bike has seen me rush to her aid without worry for instance.

So, what was actually going on here? I thought perhaps later that she just wanted to cadge some money for a bus ride or something like that but why didn't she say something. Any thoughts?
